By undertaking the National High Tech Research and Development (863) Program and some relateve national key projects, seabed high precision and total covering exploration technology, ocean color and microwave remote sensing, ARGO observation technology, deep sea exploration technology and ocean environment parameters exploration technology have been researched and developed. This greatly promotes the progress of science and the productive forces of the society.

Science and technology serves the oceanic economy. In order to adapt the need of economic development, new industry technologies have been researched and developed continually in the recent years, such as the purified production technology of chitin, the technology of exploitations of low valued aquatic products, the technology for enzymolyed antihypertensive peptide from aquatic products, the technology of fresh-water culture of sea shrimp, the technology of capsaicin antifouling paint and the technology of water treatment and separation.
