The general election of the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on the 15th. Tang Yong, a Chinese member and a researcher from the Second Institute of Oceanography, MNR, was reappointed consecutively, with a term of office from 2023 to 2028.

As an international body established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf officially began operation in 1997. The commission consists of 21 independent experts, and deliberates the proposals submitted by coastal States on the outer limits of their continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles.

Chinese experts have been serving as members of the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf since its establishment.
