SIO Scientific and Technological Delegation Visited Oman

      On September 23-25, at the invitation of Sultan Qaboos University in Sultan, Oman, SIO delegation paid a two-day academic visit to Sultan Qaboos University in Sultan, Oman.
      During the visit, SIO visited Sultan Qaboos University and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries in Oman. The delegation was cordially received by Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al-Mahrooqi, Vice-President of Sultan Qaboos University in Oman, and Dr. Harmed Said Al-Oufi, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The delegation also participated in the International Forum on the Application of Remote Sensing in Physical Oceanography co-sponsored by the two institutions. Mr. H. E. Dr. Ali Saud Al Bemani, President of Sultan Qaboos University, Dr. Alkhattab Alhinai, Vice-chairman of Oman National Assembly, Ambassador Adnan R. Al-Azri of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Dr. Rahma Al-Mahrooqi, Vice-President of Sultan Qaboos University, Dr. Yasee Ahmed Al-Mulla, Director of Remote Sensing and GIS Research Center, and representatives of the Navy of Oman attended the forum.
      At the forum, scientists from both Oman and China made academic research reports on the application of remote sensing in Oceanography and other related research fields. ZHOU Feng, a Fellow of SIO, made a keynote report of the conference entitled "Integrated investigations on hypoxia: Field surveys, satellite observations and numerical modeling", which caused strong reaction. Following the academic report, the two sides held round-table discussion on Sino-Oman cooperation in marine science and technology, and conducted in-depth discussions on marine science and marine environment issues in the Oman Sea and the Arabian Sea. Both sides looked forward to Sino-Oman cooperation in marine science, expressed the need to strengthen follow-up contacts, clarify research objectives and modes of cooperation and carry out substantive research on Sino-Oman cooperation in marine science as soon as possible.
