Marine Remote Sensing and Satellite Oceanography |
| The Institute is one of the first organizations to study marine remote sensing and has become a major power in this field. It is first developed a digital simulation system in China for sun-synchronous orbit satellite. Its satellite ground station can receive data from SEASTAR, NOAA and FY series satellites and is the only one in the mainland of China that has the right to receive SeaWiFS data free of charge. In the inverse of satellite information, various inverse algorithms were improved or developed for obtaining satellite information reflecting in precision the environmental characteristics of the coastal waters of China. Since 1990s the Institute has done a lot of work in satellite oceanography and studies on suspended materia chlorophyll and primary production, red tide, sea wave direction spectrum, seabed topography, ocean tide, sea dynamic fluctuation, ocean circulation, sea level variation and sea surface wind field have been made. A research force of high level has been formed. |
