On November 11, the 8th Staff Fun Sports Meeting with the theme of “Celebrate the 20th CPC National Congress ˙ Strive for a New Journey” started happily. All the leaders of the SIO attended the opening ceremony. Vice Director Mei Xianjun, Chairman of the Trade Union, delivered an opening speech, and Director Fang Yinxia announced the opening of the sports meeting.

6 group events and 3 individual events were set in this sports meeting. More than 300 players from 5 representative united teams from 12 trade union branches of the SIO participated in the sports meeting. Congcong, Lianlian and Chenchen, the mascots of the 19th Hangzhou Asian Games, appeared at the event site, reflecting the Asian Games spirit of friendship and fairness, and also enhancing the fun. Employees stopped to take pictures with them. Group events, such as “Planning and Layout”, “Solidarity”, “Just Go”, “Hurtling Boasts”, “Hare & Tortoise” and “the Belt and Road”, are all tests of team cooperation, while individual events, such as “Squared Up Shooting”, “Happy Feet” and “Darts”, focus on personal skills. The ringtoss experience project was set for the first time at this sports meeting, and the ringtoss prizes were distributed on the spot, which won a great deal of praise. Through fierce competition, the Key Laboratory of Marine Ecosystem and Biogeochemistry Research and Education Team won the championship, the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences Island Team won the second place, and the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics Boat Team won the third place.

Mei Xianjun pointed out that people of the SIO should not only withstand the wind and rain, master cutting-edge technology, but also have a strong physique. Only with a strong physique can people meet new challenges on the new journey. This sports meeting is also a vivid practice of the deployment of “carrying out extensive national fitness activities, promoting the all-round development of mass sports and competitive sports, and accelerating the construction of a sports power” proposed in the report of the 20th CPC National Congress, so that employees can devote themselves to marine science and technology with stronger physique and more enthusiasm.
