从事近海环流、海洋锋、海洋缺氧、浮游植物藻华以及人工智能海洋应用研究。担任卫星海洋环境监测预警全国重点实验室副主任，自然资源部长三角海洋生态环境野外科学观测研究站创站站长和海洋生态系统动力学创新团队首席专家。主持国家重点研发计划课题2项、国家基金5项（重点1项）等国家和省部级竞争性课题20余项。联合国第三次世界海洋评估“河口与三角洲”章节领衔编写作者，联合国海洋十年项目“黑潮与边缘海的交换及其生态效应（KEES）”首席科学家，发起东印度洋海洋生态联合研究计划（JAMES）。先后参与我国近海、印度洋和太平洋30余次海上科学考察，历时近2年。已发表论文约130篇，其中SCI收录100余篇，第一作者和通讯作者SCI论文40余篇。合作发明专利10余项。获得省部级奖励2项。
