The SIO held the International Forum on the Utilization and Protection of Deep-Sea Mineral Resources

On October 24, the International Forum on the Utilization and Protection of Deep-Sea Mineral Resources held by the SIO was held in Sanya. Professor Amr Zakaria Hamouda, Vice Chairman of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, and experts and scholars from China, Russia, the United States, France and other countries attended the forum. The forum was convened by Researcher Tao Chunhui from the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences, MNR of the SIO.
During the forum, Researcher Tao Chunhui, Georgy Cherkashov, Deputy Director of All-Russian Institute of Marine Geology and Mineral Resources, renowned petrologist Henry Dick, and 12 experts and scholars from various countries gave academic presentations, exchanged and discussed topics related to global deep-sea mineral resource potential, deep-sea environment and mining technology, jointly seeking scientific and technological innovation and cooperation in the field of deep-sea mineral resources.
Professor Amr Zakaria Hamouda, Vice Chairman of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and Chairman of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries of Egypt, attended the forum and delivered a speech, stating that the forum shows China’s tremendous progress and development potential in deep-sea exploration, promoting China to become a leader in deep scientific cooperation with other countries in this field.
This forum is an important part of the 1st Hainan Free Trade Port International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum and Deep-Sea Technology Innovation Conference in 2023, creating an exchange platform for countries to jointly address the utilization and protection of deep-sea mineral resources.
