The achievement led by the SIO won the special prize of the 1st Natural Resources Science and Technology Progress Award

On December 8, the Ministry of Natural Resources announced the results of the 2022 Natural Resources Science and Technology Award, and the project “Key Technologies and Major Applications for Delimitation of Complex Geographic Entities in the China Sea”, with the SIO as the first completion unit, won the special prize. Through more than a decade of joint research, this project has made breakthroughs in a number of key technologies and theoretical methods such as high-resolution detection and processing of seabed terrain, multi-source water depth fusion and high-precision modeling, identification and delineation of complex seabed geographic entities, forming the technical theory system and ability of detecting and identifying the seabed geographic entity. The relevant academic and technological achievements have been widely applied at home and abroad. The Natural Resources Science and Technology Award was jointly established by six societies (China Land Science Society, Geological Society of China, Chinese Society on Economics of Geology & Mineral Resources, Chinese Society for Oceanography, Pacific Society of China and China Society of Natural Resources) under the guidance of the Ministry of Natural Resources in 2022, aiming to reward collectives and individuals making great contributions to scientific and technological innovation in the field of natural resources. A total of 4 special prizes, 14 first prizes and 77 second prizes were selected in the first session.
