From September 23 to September 29, the Training Course on Sea-Level Rise and Coastal Adaptation hosted by the Ministry of Commerce and organized by our institute, concluded successfully. Fang Yinxia, Director General of SIO, attended the closing ceremony and presented certificates to all participants.
The training course aimed to share China’s practical experience and technical approaches in monitoring sea-level rise and adapting to coastal changes, helping ASEAN countries strengthen coastal disaster response and ecological management, and jointly promoting regional ocean sustainability. A total of 26 participants from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar took part in the program. The course featured specialized courses on coastal ecosystem management and blue economy development, global sea-level change under climate change, prediction and impact assessment of sea-level rise in China’s coastal waters, as well as field visits. Participants expressed that the program greatly broadened their scientific perspective and that they hoped to apply the knowledge gained to the development of the marine sector in their home countries.
At the closing ceremony, Director Fang Yinxia stated that the institute would take this course as an opportunity to further deepen practical cooperation with ASEAN countries in technical assistance, joint research, and capacity building, working towards establishing a long-term cooperation mechanism and jointly advancing marine sustainability and regional friendship. Ms. Nur Aini Iswati Hasanah, a senior official from the Directorate General of Water Resources of Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works and Housing, spoke on behalf of the participants. She noted that this course had systematically enhanced participants’ scientific understanding of sea-level rise and their ability to address it, and that it would promote closer cooperation between ASEAN countries and China in coastal zone management and climate adaptation.
