The Expert Consultation Meeting on International Standards of Marine Technology was held in Hangzhou

On September 5, the Expert Consultation Meeting on International Standards of Marine Technology hosted by the International Organization for Standardization Marine Technology Subcommittee (ISO/TC8/SC13) and the SIO was held in Hangzhou, and experts from the Ministry of Natural Resources, the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Zhejiang Administration for Market Regulation, and a number of maritime units, standardization field related units attended the meeting.

Academician Li Jiabiao, Chairman of SC13, delivered a speech, and pointed out that strengthening cooperation and exchange is very significant for the work of international marine standards. Researcher Li Yanqing, Chairman of International Organization for Standardization Committee on Ship and Marine Technology (ISO/TC8), introduced the development strategy of TC8 and its opportunities and challenges in combination with the international market demand and the legislative rules of international institutions, and pointed out that the future development of SC13 should be more closely aligned with the market demand; Researcher Feng Xuwen, SC13 Manager, reported the progress and focus of SC13 work; Academician Chen Dake introduced the new development of ocean observation technology. Professor Chen Luzhen from Xiamen University explained the methods and techniques of blue carbon assessment in coastal wetlands; Gao Xuemin, Second-level Inspector of the Science and Technology Division and Ren Yanbo, Deputy Director of the Department of Standards and Innovation of the State Administration for Market Regulation, attended the meeting online, affirmed the achievements of SC13 in recent years, and gave high attention and support to the ocean international standardization work.

The experts attending the meeting, based on their respective fields of expertise, discussed topics such as the new demand for international standards in Chinas marine technology field, the possibility of formulating international standards in the blue carbon field, and strengthening cooperation with the International Seabed Authority. Academician Li Jiabiao stressed in his summary that the future work of SC13 will focus on the setting of international standards in the field of blue carbon (including carbon monitoring, carbon trading, carbon assessment and carbon sequestration), intelligent ocean observing system and underwater noise related marine environmental protection.
