First Master Receiving Chinese Government Marine Scholarship Graduates from SIO

On September 25, Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences, SOA, held a thesis defense for Jimoh, Olayinka Rasheed from Nigeria in the joint education program with Zhejiang University.
Jimoh participated in the China-Nigeria International Cooperation Voyage in 2012. With outstanding performance, Jimoh received the Chinese Government Marine Scholarship in 2013 and went to China for a master's degree. SIO attaches great importance to it and appoints the Academician Li Jiabiao as his supervisor, and Professor Li Chunfeng of Zhejiang University and Tang Yong, a researcher at SIO, as his instructors. Cultivated by SIO and Zhejiang University, Jimoh successfully completed the study and published an article on in Acta Oceanologica Sinica (English) (SCI). His thesis on the morphological characteristics of the submarine canyons on the edge of the Nigerian continent won praise and unanimous approval from the defense committee.
Currently, Jimoh's master's degree is being reviewed by Zhejiang University. It is estimated that he will get his master's degree certificate in China by the end of September, becoming the first Nigerian student to be funded by the Chinese Government Marine Scholarship. At the defense, Jimoh expressed his gratitude to the supervisors and fellows at the State Oceanic Administration, The SIO and Zhejiang University and expressed his expectation to pursue a doctorate from SIO and Zhejiang University. His graduation and the enrollment of two Nigerian Ph.D. students at SIO indicated that the SIO is highly capable of training high-tech talents in Africa and has further deepened its cooperation with the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and expanded the influence of Chinese Government Marine Scholarship.
The defense committee consists of the researcher Ding Wewei, Professor Li Chunfeng, researcher Fang Yinxia, researcher Lv Wenzheng and researcher Tang Yong. The leaders of the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences as well as some researchers and students were present.
