On February 24, the China-Myanmar International Cooperated Marine Scientific Expedition Voyage completed its work in the last operation station. The China-Myanmar Cooperated Voyage lasted 11 days, during which, not only valuable marine ecological data on exclusive economic zone of Myanmar were obtained, but also it means the successful completion of the Joint Advanced Marine and Ecological Studies (JAMES) which lasted over 3 months.
Besides this China-Myanmar cooperation, the Joint Advanced Marine and Ecological Studies of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China also include scientific expeditions between China and Sri Lanka. "Xiangyanghong 06" sailed from Zhoushan, Zhejiang on November 24, 2019, passed the South China Sea, crossed the Strait of Malacca, and entered the Indian Ocean. It has conducted joint scientific expeditions on ocean and ecology for three consecutive months.
This winter voyage study involves multidisciplinary contents such as on hydrology, meteorology, biology, chemistry, optics, etc. It aims to study marine ecological environmental change of the Indian Ocean and its response to monsoon, climate, and human activity, especially the formation mechanism of oxygen deficiency of subsurface water body of the Bay of Bengal and its impact on surrounding marine ecosystem.
The multi-disciplinary marine ecological environment data recorded during the voyage laid good foundation for continuous in-depth cooperation between China and countries along the Maritime Silk Road in the field of marine scientific research. Taking this joint voyage as an opportunity, China and Myanmar will discuss and share relevant experience on marine research, so as to further deepen cooperation between the two countries on ocean observation, climate change, marine ecological protection, marine resources management, and marine talents cultivation as well as promote sustainable development and enhance friendly relations among countries along the Maritime Silk Road.
