In May, Bai Youcheng, Assistant Researcher of SIO, with the delegation, went to Arkhangelsk, Russia to participate in the open discussion and exchange of Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW), and participated in the exchanges of Marine Working Group, Pacific Arctic Group and other branch venues.
The ASSW was initiated by the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) in 1999, aiming to provide opportunities for coordination, cooperation and collaboration among various scientific organizations involved in Arctic research. Over the years, the summit has gradually evolved into the most important annual meeting of the Arctic scientific research organization. Dr. Bai Youcheng gave an oral report of “Impact of sea ice retreat on biological pump and carbon sink in the western Arctic Ocean: based on Chinese Arctic cruises” at the Pacific Arctic Group branch, and showed the research results of the research group. At the same time, the research progress in the deployment of sediment traps and new sea ice biomarkers in the high latitudes of the Arctic was shown in the form of exhibition report.
During the exhibition, Bai Youcheng and scientists from various countries exchanged extensively on Arctic biopumps, sea ice changes and organic carbon cycles, anchor systems and ecosystem observations of the west Arctic Ocean. By participating in the conference, we further strengthened the communication with international counterparts, and understood the progress and development of research in related fields abroad, which laid the foundation for further international cooperation in Arctic research.
