On March 3, the delegation headed by Huang Xiaomei, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Liu Yongsheng, Vice President, from China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, visited the SIO and signed an agreement with the SIO to jointly build the College of Marine Science and Technology, China University of Geosciences, Wuhan. Deputy Director Zheng Yulong, Chief Engineer Li Mingbi, etc. from the SIO attended the signing ceremony.

   At the signing ceremony, Secretary Huang Xiaomei expressed that China University of Geosciences, Wuhan has been committed to promoting the cross-over study and development of earth sciences and marine sciences, and the joint construction of the College of Marine Science and Technology will provide broader development space and deeper cooperation foundation for the cooperation between the two units.

   Deputy Director Zheng Yulong said that the Second Institute of Oceanography (“SIO”) and China University of Geosciences, Wuhan have a strong foundation of cooperation. Both sides will further give full play to their strengths in talents and disciplines, build a high-level research team centering on major national needs and cutting-edge scientific issues such as polar geology and environment, submarine science and maritime rights and interests, and promote the construction of joint research platform to jointly provide scientific and technological guarantee for safeguarding national marine rights and interests.

    The signing of this cooperation agreement marks that the SIO and China University of Geosciences, Wuhan have taken a solid step in the integration of marine science and education. In future cooperation, both sides will actively explore innovative cooperation models, further expand cooperation areas, enhance teaching staff construction, and promote discipline exchanges and scientific research cooperation, thus making more contributions to the prosperity and development of China’s marine science undertaking.

After the meeting, Secretary Huang Xiaomei and the delegation visited the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences.
