From June 5 to 10, Deputy Director Chen Jianfang led the delegation of the SIO to visit Tunisia and Tanzania, and signed memorandums of understanding with the National Institute of Marine Science and Technology of Tunisia and the Institute of Fisheries and Marine Resources of Zanzibar of Tanzania.

During the visit, the delegation of the SIO was received by the Chairman of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries of Tunisia and the Minister of the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries of Zanzibar, Tanzania. Both sides shared their research achievements and cooperation intentions through academic reports, and reached a series of cooperation consensus in ocean observation, marine resource conservation and utilization, marine sustainable development, ecological environment protection and other areas. At the same time, based on the signing of the memorandum of understanding, both sides started to cooperate in applying for projects and further implement their cooperation intention.

Through this visit, the SIO further expanded the cooperation network with Africa, clarified African needs for maritime cooperation, and consolidated broader cooperation consensus, laying a solid foundation for the construction of China-Africa Marine Science and Blue Economy Center.
