Recently, three marine industry standards, namely, Technology Requirement of Navigation and Positioning for Submarine Topography and Geomorphology Investigation (HY/T 0351-2023), Technology Requirement for Submarine Topography and Geomorphology Investigation of Single Beam Echo Sounding (HY/T 0352-2023), and Technology Requirement for Submarine Topography and Geomorphology Investigation of Unmanned Surface Vehicle (HY/T 0353-2023), led by the SIO, were officially released by the Ministry of Natural Resources.

Submarine topography and geomorphology survey is a basic marine survey work, and its survey results include bathymetric maps, submarine topography and geomorphology maps, etc., which are widely used in the fields of ocean engineering construction, seabed resources development, marine rights and interests maintenance, and marine scientific research. This series of marine industry standards not only provide normative technical suggestions for seabed topography and geomorphology surveys, but also fill the gap of China in submarine topography and geomorphology investigation of unmanned surface vehicle as well as navigation and positioning for submarine topography and geomorphology investigation. These standards involve investigation preparation, investigation implementation, investigation data processing, investigation data and results archiving, etc. The release and implementation of this series of marine industry standards will better guide submarine topography and geomorphology investigation, help to improve the technical level and quality of results in submarine topography and geomorphology investigation, to meet the actual needs of marine survey work.

These marine industry standards were approved in 2018, and were jointly prepared by a number of domestic research institutes and enterprises under the leadership of Wu Ziyin researcher team from the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences of the SIO, based on nearly 30 years of experience and achievements in submarine topography and geomorphology investigation of the SIO.
