On July 18, the International Training Course on Ocean Color Remote Sensing and Three-dimensional Monitoring Technologies (SatCO2- V Training Course) hosted by the SIO was opened. A total of 21 foreign students from 13 countries including Cote d'Ivoire, Tunisia, Egypt, Mozambique participated in the training, and Deputy Director Chen Jianfang attended the opening ceremony.

The training course will provide training and data support for marine ecological environment remote sensing and three-dimensional monitoring technology for developing countries such as Africa through the leading talents, technologies and platform advantages of the SIO in remote sensing and other fields, and build a mutually beneficial scientific and technological exchange channel between China and developing countries such as Africa in the field of marine environmental monitoring. In addition, it aims to take this opportunity to carry out multi-level cooperation and exchange, gradually promote the global accuracy testing of China’s independent ocean remote sensing satellite products and bio-optical buoys, expand the application types of China’s remote sensing and buoy reanalysis data product research and development, and improve the reliability and accuracy of data products. The one-week course covers lectures on profile buoys, coastal zone remote sensing and models, marine ecological remote sensing, Argo data and SatCO2 software operation training.

At the opening ceremony, Deputy Director Chen Jianfang welcomed the students and stated that the Second Institute of Oceanography has established stable cooperative relations with marine research institutes from multiple African countries, and will continue to carry out marine scientific surveys, blue economy cooperation and talent cultivation and training. He also hoped that students will become envoys of China-Africa maritime cooperation by participating in the training course, bring cutting-edge knowledge and technologies to their host countries, in order to promote the development of ocean remote sensing and Argo buoy monitoring technology in their countries. Wang Yuntao, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics, introduced the basic situation of international cooperation and exchange of the SIO, as well as the cutting-edge ocean three-dimensional observation technology. Researcher He Xianqiang introduced the progress of China’s ocean color satellite and application technology.

The students visited the Hangzhou station of National Ocean Satellite Ground Station, the exhibition hall of the SIO, etc., further deepening their understanding of the SIO.
