On September 5, the SIO held the opening ceremony for postgraduate students of Grade 2023 and the education training for new entrants. Director Fang Yinxia, Party Secretary Yu Jian, Deputy Director Mei Xianjun attended the activity. Leaders of functional departments, laboratories (centers, institutes), graduate supervisors, and all freshmen and new entrants entering the SIO in 2023 participated in the activity.

Director Fang Yinxia said that freshmen should take the mission, cultivate a sense of patriotism, maintain a curious heart, be brave in innovation, devote themselves to marine research firmly, take over the baton held by generations of “ocean people”, bravely explore the “unmanned zone” of scientific research, and contribute to the construction of a maritime power. The supervisor representative Ding Weiwei, based on his own research experience, encouraged freshmen to learn to ask questions, integrate knowledge and action, and view success and failure correctly. Only by continuously accumulating various scientific research skills can people accumulate steadily and achieve a qualitative leap. Zhu Yixian, the representative of Grade 2023 freshmen, gave a speech, expressing that freshmen should cherish the learning opportunities at the SIO, always be thirsty for knowledge, humble about life and brave to challenge, constantly improve, and achieve the expected results in their respective professional fields. All the freshmen and new entrants also introduced themselves on the stage during the opening ceremony, showing their style.

After the ceremony, new entrants received entrance education and training. The leaders of each department introduced their department’s responsibilities based on daily work and conducted policy advocacy for new entrants, providing guidance for their future learning and work.
