On August 21, Jean-Paul Lainé, President of the World Federation of Scientific Workers (WFSW), and his delegation visited the SIO for exchanges. Chen Li, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee, attended the symposium.
Chen Li expressed welcome to the delegation and looked forward to deepening cooperation with WFSW, expanding cooperation areas and jointly addressing challenges to human sustainable development through this exchange. President Jean-Paul Lainé expressed his heartfelt thanks for being invited to visit the SIO, mentioned that WFSW had just successfully held the 96th Executive Committee and International Scientific Symposium series of activities in Beijing and Huzhou, and hoped that more member organizations and individuals will join in the future to strengthen the power of WFSW. During the meeting, the two sides conducted in-depth exchanges, and Researcher Han Xiqiu introduced the basic overview, major scientific research achievements, and international cooperation of the SIO to President Lainé and his delegation.
WFSW, founded in London in 1946, is the first international organization that China Association for Science and Technology joined. Researcher Han Xiqiu from the SIO was elected as a member of the Executive Committee and the International Secretariat in 2022.
The delegation also visited the exhibition hall and Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences of the SIO.
