On March 26, International Standard Seminar on Marine Technology and ISO International Standard Formulation Training were held in Hangzhou. More than 100 consulting experts and related technicians in the standardization field participated in the event.
       Academician Li Jiabiao, Chairman of Marine Technology Sub-committee of International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC8/SC13, hereinafter referred to as SC13), delivered a speech, saying that in the new era and stage of China’s development, it is of great significance for everyone to gather together to discuss international standardization work on marine. Researcher Li Yanqing, Chairman of Ship and Ocean Technology Committee of International Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC8), introduced the development strategy of TC8 as well as opportunities and challenges it faces, pointed out that international standard of marine technology will be one of the fields with the most extensive participation and the most intense international competition in future, and highly affirmed the work efficiency and vitality of SC13. Researcher Feng Xuwen, Manager of SC13, reported on SC13 work progress and future plans.
       Starting from respective professional fields, the participated experts reported and discussed following issues: environmental standards and guidelines for development of international seabed mineral resources, development and impact of high sea reserves, technical standards for environmental impact assessment outside the scope of national jurisdiction, standardization of coastal blue carbon sink monitoring and evaluation methods, technical standards for abandonment of offshore oil and gas production facilities, how to carry out standardization in the field of marine environmental protection, and how to carry out standardized multilateral cooperation in the post-epidemic era.
       During the ISO international standard formulation training stage, Dr. Ma Letian from the Secretariat and Researcher Lei Yanli from the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences gave detailed explanations on the procedures and key points of ISO standard declaration and compilation, which deepened people’s understanding on ISO marine technology standardization work.
