A few days ago, the main body of the Zhoushan (Shengsi County) marine ecological protection and restoration project, a national marine ecological protection and restoration project, under the whole-process technical support of the SIO, was completed.

The implementation area of the project includes Shengsi Archipelago and Ma’an Archipelago Special Marine Protection Area. With regard to the ecological problems in the area, a number of marine ecological restoration objectives have been set up, including beach restoration, ecological shoreline construction, bay dredging, marine rehabilitation by reducing aquaculture, and marine intelligent control.

During the implementation of the project in the past two years, engineers and technicians of the SIO have carried out a number of technical support and research and development for the project by using new theories, new technologies and new methods. They put forward the design concept of setting up an upper, middle and lower three-dimensional ecological structure in the tidal level change zone, and carried out the habitat remodeling of salt marsh vegetation, shellfish, meiobenthos, attaching organisms and algae in the ecological research of vertical seawall. Based on the impact of surrounding marine development activities on the beach and the requirements for beach restoration, the study of Jihu beach restoration made a detailed investigation and multi-plan scenario calculation and analysis of the sea flow field, and determined the restoration plan. At the same time, the Argus video monitoring system was deployed to obtain long-term, continuous and high-resolution monitoring data and evaluate the evolution effect of the beach before and after maintenance in real time. In the research on the environmental impact and sustainable cultivation of mussel cultivation on the island, the micro-plastic investigation of the cultivation sea area was carried out, the cultivation space layout was optimized by using the cultivation capacity, and the sustainable cultivation assessment and implementation path research were carried out from the aspects of ecosystem health assessment and production risk quantitative measurement in the cultivation area, so as to achieve the coordinated development of the social economy and the marine ecological environment in the Gouqi Island sea area.
