 On September 18, the 10th plenary session of the International Organization for Standardization Marine Technology Sub-committee (ISO/TC8/SC13) was held in Athens, Greece. More than 20 experts from China, Germany, Japan, South Korea, the UK and other countries participated in the SC13 plenary session, and Academician Chen Dake, Chairman of the Marine Technology Sub-committee, chaired the session.

At the session, Researcher Feng Xuwen reported the work progress of the SC13 secretariat, focusing on how SC13 closely tracks hot areas such as climate change and ocean observation to carry out standard development work. Researcher Li Yanqing, Chairman of TC8, highly affirmed the diversified standard-setting work carried out by SC13 in the fields of ocean observation, development and environmental protection, and hoped that the sub-committee would pay attention to the development strategy of better connecting with the marine equipment market in the future.

During the discussion stage of the session, the conveners or representatives of the working groups on AUVs, marine hydrological and meteorological observation, seawater desalination, marine environmental impact assessment, coastal blue carbon and seabed exploration mainly reported the planning of future standard development. The discussion of the new proposal focused on the biogeomorphic changes in blue carbon ecosystems and the total accounting of coastal ecosystem products. Chairman Chen Dake affirmed the achievements of SC13 in promoting the publication of 13 international standards in combination with cutting-edge hotspots in the field of marine technology, and pointed out that SC13 will actively work in the field of smart ocean observation and climate change in the future.

 The delegation of the SIO also participated in the ISO/TC8 plenary session. Chairman Chen Dake delivered an annual report on behalf of SC13 and had interactive exchanges with the representatives present at the session on how to better carry out international standardization in the marine field, etc.
