On September 26, the China Ocean 81st Voyage, organized and implemented by the SIO, completed the mission of the first leg and returned to the dock of Zhoushan Base.

In this leg, the expedition team members carried out resource and environmental survey tasks in the Western Pacific Ocean, including box sampling of resource and environmental stations, multi-tube sampling, near-bottom optical survey, vertical plankton trawl, layered plankton trawl, CTD, underwater glider survey, etc., and obtained a large number of samples and data.

As a new technology R&D achievement driven by the deep-sea application demand, the “Insight” AUV also received an application test in this leg, demonstrating the excellent performance of high stability, low power consumption and long voyage. Its successful application marks that the new “post mode” investigation method has a practical foundation. This mode will enable the AUV to take a solid step in breaking away from the mother ship, ensuring safety and improving operation efficiency.
