Recently, Researcher Zhou Feng from the SIO was selected as an expert of IOC-WESTPAC Advisory Group.

The IOC-WESTPAC Advisory Group was nominated by member countries and elected after deliberation by the Sub-Committee. A total of 7 experts from China, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and other countries were selected, with a term of office from 2023 to 2027. During the term of office, Researcher Zhou Feng will fulfill his duties as a consulting expert, provide scientific suggestions on the planning, development and implementation of relevant scientific actions to IOC-WESTPAC, promote the implementation of the big science project, and deepen international cooperation.

In recent years, in response to the big science project of the United Nations “Ocean Decade” Program, the IOC-WESTPAC led the launch of “the 2nd Cooperative Study of the Kuroshio and its Adjacent Regions” program (CSK-2 Program). The “Kuroshio Edge Exchange and the Shelf Ecosystem” (KEES) project, in which Researcher Zhou Feng serves as the chief scientist, is based on the CKS-2 program and was selected as part of the United Nations “Ocean Decade” Program in June this year.
