Recently, the members of SIO participating in China’s 38th Antarctic expedition completed the voyage mission and returned smoothly.

China’s 38th Antarctic expedition was carried out jointly by “Xue Long” and “Xue Long 2”. The expedition team set off on November 5, 2021 and it lasted 174 days. The expedition team successfully completed the tasks of logistic replenishment and personnel rotation at Antarctic Great Wall Station and Zhongshan Station, carried out station-based multidisciplinary and offshore operational observations, investigated the ecosystem of the Southern Ocean, actively conducted international cooperation in expedition logistic replenishment, and achieved a number of scientific research achievements. Zhang Haifeng, Zhang Si, Zhu Changfeng, Zhang Wei from the Key Laboratory of Marine Ecosystem Dynamics of SIO, and Liu Ya’nan and Guo Yidong from the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences, MNR participated in the whole process. They obtained multi-station and multi-parameter biological and chemical data and samples from the Antarctic Peninsula, Cosmonauts Sea and Prydz Bay, and successfully deployed and recovered multiple submersible buoy systems.
