Disciplinary Development Forum Entitled “Sea-Land Coordination and Global Change” was Held in Hangzh

      On May 6 and 7, a disciplinary development forum entitled “Sea-Land Coordination and Global Change” was held in Hangzhou. A number of academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering as well as 60 experts, scholars and representatives from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and more than 40 colleges, universities and institutes participated in the forum.

      Based on the development status, trends and major challenges of the sea and polar disciplines, in this forum, the academicians and experts conducted following behaviors: had in-depth discussions on various theoretical and practical issues such as the integrity and linkage between the sea and land, the coordinated development of the sea and land, the system and integrity of sea, the multi-layered and multi-scale interactions, etc.; endowed new connotations of “Sea-Land Coordination and Global Change” through application of cross-disciplines; integrated research teams to summarize and propose important basic scientific issues that our country urgently needs to pay attention to and solve in this research field.       

      Through this forum, a total of 6 conference reports and 33 group reports were generated. The experts agreed that the sea discipline should focus on major national strategic needs. Also, they agreed that cross-discipline development and integration of talent teams should be adhered to face the challenges and opportunities in the field of sea-land coordination and global change under the new development vision and promote the development of sea discipline driven by the application scenarios.

       Meanwhile, they emphasized the relevance and complementarities between the sea and land, so as to build a “great sea” science and promote the high-quality development of our country’s sea science and technology.
