Recently, the 2nd Youth Science Forum on "Geodynamic Processes at the Edge of the Asian Continent" was held in Hangzhou.

The forum was sponsored by the Marine Geophysics Committee of the Geophysical Society, and co-organized by the Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences, MNR and the Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resource Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The theme of the forum was the deep structure of the Asian continental margin, tectonic-sedimentary evolution, material circulation and magmatism, marine geophysical exploration equipment and technology and marine integrated geophysical research, and aimed to encourage young scholars to actively participate in marine geoscience research.

Twenty young researchers and graduate students from various scientific research institutes and universities in China demonstrated their research results and phased progress in the fields of deep structure, tectonic and sedimentary processes, numerical and physical simulation and marine geophysical equipment. The scope of research included the South China Sea, the East China Sea, the Philippine Sea, and the Sulawesi Sea on the edge of the Asian continent, as well as the open Pacific Ocean and the Southwest Indian Ocean; the research field begins to transform from the traditional detection method based on structural imaging to geophysical structure detection based on artificial intelligence or machine learning with high precision, large scale, automation and high efficiency. It was expected to improve the complete process of design, development and post-processing of marine geophysical exploration equipment (OBS) in China and improve the core competitiveness of China in the field of seismic deep structure exploration to catch up with and surpass the international first-class level.
