OnNovember 10, China's 37th Antarctic scientific expedition team set sail on the"Snow Dragon 2", Zhao Jun, Li Dong, Yang Xufeng, and Zhu Yuanli ofthe Key Laboratory of Marine Ecosystem Dynamics of the Ministry of NaturalResources embarked on this Antarctic expedition trip. Among them, associateresearcher Zhao Jun served as the chief scientist of the voyage.
Thevoyage is carried out from November 2020 to May 2021, covering the four seaareas of Prydz Bay, Astronaut Sea, Antarctic Peninsula and Amundsen Sea andinvolving physical ocean, ocean chemistry, marine biology and Marine geologyand other disciplines.
Inthe survey on Southern Ocean, researchers from SIO will combine large-scalenavigation with deep-sea biochemical submarine observations to focus on surveysand research on the cycle of biogenic elements and primary productivity ofmarine water bodies in hot spots in the Southern Ocean. The research resultscan provide valuable data and theoretical support for in-depth exploration ofthe impact of climate change on the ecological environment of Antarctica.
