The expedition, which started in late October 2022, lasted for163 days and covered more than 60,000 nautical miles. The research mainly focused on major scientific issues such as the response and feedback of key areas of the Southern Ocean to global climate change. After more than 5 months of field operations, the expedition team successfully completed the survey tasks in the relevant waters of the Southern Ocean and the relevant areas of the Antarctic continent, as well as the monitoring of the snow and ice environment at all stations from Zhongshan Station to Section A of the Antarctic Dome, astronomical observation, and the exploration of subglacial terrain in Princess Elizabeth Land and other areas, organized and implemented a number of scientific research projects and achieved a number of important scientific achievements. During this expedition, the SIO undertook multi-disciplinary research tasks, including water chemical environment, biological ecology and geophysics. Relevant results will contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of the Southern Ocean in addressing global climate change.
