Recently, the Specification for Oceanic Polymetallic Sulfide Resources Survey GB/T 42637-2023 (the “Specification”) has been reviewed and released by the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China), and will be implemented from September 1, 2023. Led by China Ocean Mineral Resources R & D Association, the Specification was jointly prepared by the Second Institute of Oceanography (“SIO”), the First Institute of Oceanography, Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey and China University of Geosciences, Wuhan. The Specification applies to the preliminary survey stage of oceanic polymetallic sulfide resource exploration, and divides this stage into three steps: prospective area survey, mineralization area survey, exploration target area survey. It also provides the survey content, survey methods, survey work requirements, sample collection and processing analysis requirements, and survey report preparation for each step. The introduction of the Specification fills the gap of China in relevant regulations for the survey of oceanic polymetallic sulfide resources, and meets the needs of China to carry out solid mineral resource exploration in the international seabed.
