At the end of September, the Continental Shelf Center of the SIO organized a training course on data processing for the China-Madagascar-Mozambique international cooperation voyage.

This training, based on the data processing of China-Mozambique and China-Madagascar international cooperation voyages conducted by the SIO in 2021, attracted 23 trainees from African scientific research institutions such as the Madagascar National Bureau of Mines and Strategic Industries, the National Institute for Marine and Boundary Studies, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique, the Marine Research Institute, Ministry of Marine Inland Waters and Fisheries. At the opening ceremony, Director Fang Yinxia extended a warm welcome to the visiting officials and scholars from Mozambique and Madagascar. Researcher Tang Yong showed the role of continental shelf delimitation technology system of the SIO in the construction of the Belt and Road. Representatives of various institutions from Mozambique and Madagascar also made speeches, and expressed their strong willingness to cooperate.

During the training, the continental shelf team of the SIO conducted multichannel seismic, gravity and magnetic, multi-beam and OBS data processing in the continental shelf delimitation area, as well as training on legal issues related to continental shelf delimitation and spatial planning research for trainees. The trainees also visited the laboratories of the SIO for in-depth exchanges and discussions.

This training is the first large-scale marine science and technology training against Africa since the establishment of the China-Africa Marine Science and Blue Economy Cooperation Center, which will lay the foundation for promoting and deepening China-Africa cooperation in marine science and technology.
