On December 6, the 2023 Science and Technology Annual Conference of the Zhejiang Society for Environmental Sciences was held. The achievement “High-Resolution Satellite Remote Sensing Monitoring Technology for Pollutant Discharge into the Sea and Offshore Water Quality” led by Researcher He Xianqiang of the SIO was selected as one of the “Top 10 Technological Innovations in Ecological Environment of Zhejiang Province in 2023”, and Researcher Wang Difeng received the certificate on behalf of the project team. This achievement has developed the “Space-Earth Integration” modern monitoring technology regarding the key and difficult issues in marine ecological environment protection, such as pollution discharge at sea outlets, tracing of pollutants from rivers entering the sea, and fine monitoring of water quality in bays and nearshore areas. It provides monthly reports of operational water quality remote sensing monitoring for seven coastal cities in Zhejiang Province and the Zhejiang Provincial digital government platform “Zhejiang Blue Ocean”, highlights the unique advantage of satellite remote sensing technology in the surveillance and monitoring of water quality in sea outlets, rivers and offshore waters and in serving local ecological environment supervision, and can detect suspected water pollution problems more efficiently and quickly. This achievement also provided technical support for marine environmental quality assurance during the sailing race of the Asian Games Hangzhou this year.
