To further deepen the scientific and educational integration with marine-related colleges and universities and strengthen the on-site scientific research and practical ability training of graduate students, the SIO, using its LORCE project as a platform, conducted a maritime practical course for the SIO’s and jointly-trained graduate students and those from the Ocean College, Zhejiang University from July 5 to July 7.

This scientific and educational integration voyage is an innovative educational activity under the backdrop of combining traditional classroom teaching with practical teaching by leveraging the interstices of the “Dayanghao” ship’s voyages. It covers three marine research directions: physics, chemistry and biology. The teaching content encompasses CTD operations, seawater pretreatment and experimental analysis, vertical trawling of plankton, observation of surface trawling operations, etc. With the assistance of the ship support personnel from the SIO, the participating teachers and students successfully completed the interpretation and operation of routine marine scientific research projects such as CTD water sampling.

This event makes full use of the SIO’s scientific research platform, integrates superior scientific and educational resources, and makes a beneficial attempt in jointly creating high-level practical courses.
