In July, Deputy Director Mei Xianjun led a delegation to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to carry out exchanges with local marine research institutions on further deepening cooperation in the marine field.
At the University of Chittagong in Bangladesh, the SIO and the university signed a cooperation document in the field of marine remote sensing. The two sides also jointly held an ocean color remote sensing advanced training course (SatCO2-2024), which attracted researchers, professors and students from the University of Chittagong and other research institutions in Bangladesh. The training course helped participants understand the theoretical and practical knowledge of marine remote sensing research and better utilize remote sensing data for scientific research. At the Chittagong Port Authority, both sides discussed strengthening cooperation in sharing marine environmental data and monitoring changes in the port’s marine environment. At the Bangladesh Oceanographic Research Institute in Cox’s Bazar, both sides delivered academic reports separately and discussed deepening cooperation in areas such as marine ecological environment protection, fishery remote sensing and seabed detection.
During the visit to Sri Lanka, the delegation of the SIO had in-depth exchanges with Sri Lankan officials, including the Chairman of the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA), on the implementation plan of cooperation projects, clarifying the project implementation direction.
A series of important consensuses were reached through this visit, laying a foundation for further deepening marine science and technology cooperation between the two sides in the future.
