On January 7, the award ceremony for the 2024 China Marine Engineering Science and Technology Award was held in Beihai, Guangxi. The SIO won one first prize and one second prize as the leading institution.

The project titled “Key Technologies for Precision Deep-sea Exploration and Integration and Their Major Applications” won the first prize. In response to the major needs of safeguarding maritime rights and interests and ensuring security, this project overcame the “bottleneck” technological challenges in precision deep-sea exploration, established a seabed precision exploration technology system integrating domestic UUV platform, high-precision marine gravimeter and multibeam echosounder, achieved the localization of key technological equipment for deep-sea exploration, and supported the precision seabed measurement tasks of major special projects. In addition, it broke through key technologies for the fusion processing and fine modeling of seabed multi-source heterogeneous data, supported the integration of topographic and geophysical results of major special projects, and produced high-resolution digital models and atlases.

The project titled “Damage Mechanisms and Key Restoration Technologies for Ecosystems in Semi-enclosed Bays” won the second prize. This achievement revealed the damage mechanisms of bay ecosystems under the influence of combined pollution, solved the challenges of restoring habitats contaminated by combined pollution and conserving biological resources, developed methods for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of habitat restoration and resource conservation, and obviously improved the ecological environment quality and biological resource status of Xiangshan Harbor. It has been promoted and applied in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, and coastal provinces and cities in China, achieving good ecological and social benefits.

It is reported that a total of 47 achievements won the 2024 China Marine Engineering Science and Technology Awards, including 15 first prizes and 32 second prizes.
