On April 26, the “Yunqi 2050·Youth and the Sea” Newcomers’ Forum, co-organized by the SIO, was held in Hangzhou. Themed “Youth and the Sea·Xiangshan Joins You in 2050”, this forum, as an important part of this year’s Yunqi Conference, attracted numerous experts, scholars, young students and industry representatives from universities, research institutions and enterprises. They jointly explored the future directions of deep-sea exploration, resource development and ecological protection.

“Yunqi 2050” is a technology exchange event initiated by Alibaba for young people. Its marine-themed forum, as an “academic frontier classroom” for the SIO’s graduate students, provides an open platform for young students to learn about the latest scientific research trends and academic concepts, spark their enthusiasm for marine research and broaden their academic horizons. This year marks the third time the SIO has organized young students to participate in the forum.

The forum was hosted by Researcher Wang Yuntao, the convenor. Five young scientist representatives from Peking University, Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang Ocean University, the Zhejiang Lab, and Zhejiang Hanlu were specially invited to the event. Focusing on marine scientific and technological innovation and sustainable development, they shared insights from their respective research fields around the topic of “Unlocking the Black Technologies of Deep-Sea Secrets”. Their presentations aimed to help young students better understand China’s cutting-edge achievements in marine science and technology and continuously contribute Chinese wisdom and youthful energy to global marine development.
