The SIO and Shanghai Jiao Tong University jointly carried out the teaching voyage

On April 15-17, a science education integrated teaching voyage jointly organized by the SIO and Shanghai Jiao Tong University was performed in the East China Sea. 33 teachers and students from the College of Oceanography, Shanghai Jiao Tong University took the XIANGYANGHONG 10 and gained valuable practical experience in maritime scientific research.
This science education integrated teaching voyage is an innovative educational activity under the background of combining traditional classroom teaching with practical teaching, covering three marine research directions of physics, chemistry and biology. The teaching content includes CTD operation, seawater pretreatment and experimental analysis, observation of plankton vertical trawling operation, and so on. With the assistance of ship support personnel from the SIO, the teachers and students of the College of Oceanography successfully completed the explanation and operation of conventional marine scientific research projects such as CTD water sampling, enhancing their perceptual understanding of marine scientific investigation. The support personnel from the SIO also provided ship safety education and training for teachers and students to increase their awareness of maritime safety, leaving a rare voyage experience for them.
